If you caught the finale of Logo’s “Curl Girls,” you probably noticed two things: the surfing was pretty boring, and the band playing on Manhattan Beach was way more entertaining than the rest of the season. The band on the beach was Von Iva, a queer San Francisco trio that makes up for its lack of guitar with sass and stage presence.
Von Iva has been compared to Le Tigre, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and the Detroit Cobras, so they are essentially a band that will politically make you dance and punk out–perfect sounds for the last month of summer. They are touring the Midwest and East Coast this month in support of their new album, Our Own Island, which comes out August 7. Those in San Fran can hit up the release party on August 4 at 12 Galaxies and try to score a copy early.
